The Change of Arterial and End-tidal Carbon Dioxide Tension by Respiratory Rate and Tidal Volume

Abstract
To determine how closely end-tidal CO2 tension measured by capnography reflects arterial PCO2, Arterial PCO2(PaCO2), End-tidal CO2(PETCO2) were measured simultaneously. And the difference between them was accoundted. In this case, there are many
factors
that contribute to the difference. Tidal volume and respiratory rate are the important factor of them.
Therfore. We investigated the change of PETCO2 and PaCO2 by tidal volume and respiratory rate in 29 patients.
@ES The results were as follows;
@EN 1) There was a significant correlation between end-tidal CO2 tension and arterial PCO2(r=.97)
2) End-tidal CO2 tension and arterial PCO2 in large tidal volume of 10 and 12ml/kg were significantly decreased as compared with small tidal volume, 5ml/kg(p<0.05, p<0.01).
3) According to tidal volume has been increased, the difference between end-tidal CO2 tension and arterial PCC2 had a decreasing tendency.
